All students except high school and middle school are scheduled to return to the district on October 19, 2020. High School was delayed until November 12th and the Middle School was delayed until October 26th.
Please be advised that Roosevelt Elementary School had extensive water damage from the recent rainstorm that we had. Upon further investigation, the Roosevelt Elementary School roof drain on the east end of the roof was clogged. This obstruction caused water damage to the walls and flooring of classrooms on each level of the building: (as many as five classrooms in total so far).
The district has contacted our insurance provider who arrived and noted the pending damages. We have also started cleanup and remediation with more specific work beginning tomorrow. We will know more details tomorrow, but it is safe to say that we probably have some mold and need to remediate. We will do this as soon as possible. Due to this unforeseen circumstance, Roosevelt will be closed for at least two weeks at this time. The tentative opening date will now be set for November 2, 2020. Depending on the amount of work involved, this date may end up being different. As we gather more information from tomorrow's investigation, we will give another update.
Staff members will also be teaching from home until further notice. We may have access to various parts of the building in the near future if tests of the building deem it safe for occupancy. We will update you as frequently as possible.
While this is not an ideal way to begin the 2020-2021 school year, please be assured that the administrative team’s actions are consistent with our charge to protect the health, welfare and safety of your child while they are in our school buildings. To the extent that you have a question or concern, please contact me at email@example.com, and you will receive a response in a timely fashion.
