"Learning is not attained by chance,
it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence." - Abigail Adams
MR. MICHAEL J. RIZZO
While this year is a very unique school year, I would still like to welcome all students and parents back to Community School. I am excited to introduce myself as the new principal at Community School for the 2020-21 school year.
Pre-K is an exciting time in the lives of both our students and their parents as it is the first opportunity children have to learn in a school environment. The staff at Community School is eager to meet each and every child and their parents.
Please know that my educational philosophy is that every student deserves to have a challenging yet enjoyable educational experience. However, I also believe that a student will get out of their education whatever they decide to put into their education. While this is a philosophy that is more geared toward the middle school students that I have known for the past 17 years in the Lyndhurst School District, it is a philosophy that I will never relinquish. The Community School Staff and I will work hard to instill our district philosophy - “Renewing Our Schools and Community with a Dedication to Excellence and a Unity of Purpose.”
Personal/Professional Background Information
I have been a Lyndhurst resident for most of my life and attended Jefferson School and Lyndhurst HS. I am a very proud dad to three sons (Michael, Joseph, and Nicholas). I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, with a degree in Business-Marketing. My Masters is from St. Peter’s College in Administration/Supervision.
After my first year of teaching at Roosevelt School, I spent seven years at Lincoln School as the 7th& 8thGrade Math teacher while holding other positions, such as 8thGrade Advisor, Yearbook Advisor and High School coach. During the 2012-13 school year, I was a teacher at Jefferson School. For the last seven years, I was the Principal of Lincoln School and for four of those last seven years, I was blessed to be the Principal of Memorial Campus at the same time. The 20-21 school year will be my first year as the Headmaster of our Pre-K program at Community School.
I am very involved in the Lyndhurst Community. I am a volunteer Little League baseball coach as well as the Vice President of Lyndhurst LL, and I have been the President of the Boys Recreation Basketball League for eighteen of the last twenty-one years.
I am both honored and proud to be the Principal at Community School.
